University of Nebraska Omaha, Durham Science Center Renovation

University of Nebraska Omaha, Durham Science Center Renovation

Clark & Enersen was selected by the University of Nebraska Omaha to provide design services for the renovation of the Durham Science Center. The renovation of the 164,166-gross-square-foot building updated architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and provides space for classrooms, offices, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, student study space, and room for additional activities.

The size and condition of the College’s existing facilities in Durham Science Center did not originally support the needs of the state or allow the college to fully deliver on its mission. We worked closely with UNO stakeholders to review current space usage and future needs, and we assessed the existing condition of the building, laboratories, classrooms, and mechanical and electrical systems. This work included the development of a multi-phased plan for renovation.

The new facility will enable the College of Arts and Sciences to achieve the growth goals established by the University. Specific objectives for the project included developing state-of-the-art facilities to improve recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students; providing spaces for interactive learning and collaboration; and providing spaces to support modern pedagogies proven to improve student learning outcomes, retention, and graduate rates.
