University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Memorial Stadium East Expansion
Our firm designed the renovation and expansion for the east entryway of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s (UNL) Memorial Stadium. Dedicated in 1923, the stadium is one of the most iconic venues in all of college football. Like many collegiate structures built in the same era, it was dedicated to the fallen soldiers of World War I, and the architecture is a symbol of great sacrifice and victory. It also reflects the pride of Nebraskans.
The East Stadium expansion added more than 6,000 seats, raising the stadium’s overall capacity to more than 90,000. The project also added new concourses, a grand lobby, 38 new luxury suites, banquet/gathering areas, outdoor balconies, and other fan amenities.
The project improved overall circulation with greater access to gates and improved concessions and restrooms. Life safety features were improved with a fire sprinkler system and new handrails and guardrails in the lower-level and balcony seating areas.
Suite areas include high-level finishes such as granite, rich wood detailing, abundant glass, metal and custom branded elements. This touch continues into the skyboxes, with granite, quality cabinetry, custom furnishings, and Husker-themed elements featuring the “N” logo. In addition, we worked with HuskerVision staff to provide the infrastructure for more than 250 televisions, secured entrances, and a complete sound system complete with emergency mass notification capabilities.
