University of Missouri, Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory

Clark & Enersen was selected to complete the study and design of the University of Missouri (MU) Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, an 85,000-square-foot facility located within the MU College of Veterinary Medicine. The new building expands and replaces the current one, which is Missouri’s only facility that is a Level 1 NAHLN Laboratory, accredited by AAVLD, and classified as a Tier 1 Laboratory of the FDA Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network. This project was planned in two phases to keep the diagnostic sections and necropsy spaces operational during construction.

The facility increases levels of biosecurity and overall effectiveness of operations through the separation of public and private spaces, state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratories, standard and enhanced necropsy rooms, and BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories. The building also features educational classrooms, teaching laboratories, and meeting rooms that benefit the College as a whole. Positioned between the Veterinary Medicine Building and the Veterinary Health Center, the new Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab is a key element in the success of the College, providing diagnostic services and expanded educational spaces.

Our team was also selected to move forward with design development, with an estimated total project cost of $30 million. Phase 1 is complete, and Phase 2 is currently under construction.
