University of Missouri-Kansas City, Health Sciences Building, Animal Facility

Clark & Enersen was selected to develop architectural and engineering plans for a new laboratory animal facility in the Health Science Building on the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Hospital Hill campus. The facility represented Phase I of a larger project funded by an NIH grant. It has the capacity to produce and maintain genetically-engineered rodents to meet the qualitative and quantitative animal resource needs of the University’s emerging biomedical programs.

The facility supports research in the areas of bone marrow stem cell gene therapy, osteoporosis and bone metastasis, diabetes, shock and trauma, autoimmune diseases, neural diseases, and cardiovascular disorders, which could lead to significant advances in clinical treatment for those diseases. It also positions UMKC’s research programs at the forefront of current trends in biomedical research. The transgenic facility and the training provided to investigators foster collaboration and generate new cooperative programs of federally-funded research.
