Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Industry Education Center and Veterinary Tech Expansion
The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) offers educational programs geared toward production agriculture, agribusiness, and veterinary tech careers. Clark & Enersen was commissioned to design a new 26,440-square-foot (SF) single-story education center as well as a 13,500-SF renovation and expansion of the veterinary tech facility.
The Nebraska Agriculture Industry Education Center includes the NCTA’s Horticulture Department, teaching laboratories, general classrooms, a large lecture hall, and consolidates the campus Information Technology Services Department previously dispersed throughout the campus. The building also supports agronomy programs.
The veterinary tech expansion improves NCTA’s ability to house and care for small and large animals, and this portion of the project involved the complete renovation of 3,670 SF in the animal holding addition constructed in 1979. In addition, the project razed the east wing of the existing historic dairy barn and renovated the remaining 2,250 GSF. An addition to the east of 7,480 GSF fulfills the program requirements and a new circulation corridor consolidates and unites the animal holding building, dairy barn, and the existing veterinary hospital into a single facility. The new facility contains spaces for the housing and care of the campus’s existing animal populations while creating contemporary necropsy and sterilization facilities. The dairy barn houses a simulated veterinary clinic and associated support spaces.
This project contributed to NCTA’s recognition in Forbes Magazine as one of the Top 30 Trade Schools in the nation. The college’s performance was based on college affordability, academic quality, and average earnings of its graduates. NCTA provides a two-year associate degree program. Coupled with NCTA’s partnership with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR), the new Education Center and Vet Tech facility expansion helped NCTA achieve a record number of graduates in 2017 that went on to attend four-year colleges and university.
