Missouri State University, Darr Agricultural Center – Bond Learning Center

Missouri State University, Darr Agricultural Center – Bond Learning Center

Clark & Enersen designed and completed three phases of work on Missouri State University’s 125-acre Darr Agricultural Center campus, with the most significant portion of phase III involving expanding the Bond Learning Center to serve as the new “front door” to the campus. This final phase of the DAC greatly expands the University’s ability, through research and education, to address issues the agricultural industry faces in supporting an increasingly urban society.

The building features:

  • A large classroom and lecture hall equipped with an animal entrance and specialized pen.
  • Classrooms with distance learning technology.
  • Video and audio streaming technologies in every laboratory.
  • Laboratory equipment that facilitates student and faculty research in the areas of water quality, soil chemistry, horticulture sciences, and animal physiology.
  • Conference space and banquet hall that accommodate up to 400 people for public and private events as well as large-scale educational opportunities.

The Bond Learning Center is LEED Silver certified and features a system to filter storm water runoff before it reaches nearby streams; occupancy sensors for the lighting and temperature control system; and a ground-source heat-pump mechanical system to take advantage of the earth’s constant temperature 200 feet below the surface. The building also maximizes the use of natural light and has a light-colored roof that minimizes solar heat gain.
