Lincoln Parks and Recreation, Woods Park Master Plan, Improvement Projects, and Indoor Tennis Complex
Neighborhood input was critical to the design plan development and implementation for this 48-acre park in central Lincoln. The area has active neighborhood associations, whose members were concerned about preserving the park’s large open spaces while also offering a variety of recreation for all ages. Input from these groups led to a plan that included:
- Multi-purpose play fields for football, soccer, and softball.
- Open play space.
- New sprayground.
- Shelter.
- Bike paths.
- Playground.
The Parks and Recreation Department also wanted to make the park a more well-rounded recreational site for all ages. To meet this goal, we designed a new tennis clubhouse that improved access to the existing indoor courts and visual control of the new exterior courts. The new clubhouse also accommodates more patrons and improves service for tournaments.
Clark & Enersen also completed tennis center improvements, replacing the two existing and outdated bubbles with a permanent steel beam, insulated structure featuring improved lighting as well as high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Housed inside of this structure are six new indoor courts and indoor viewing spaces.
The new facility is fully accessible to accommodate a wide range of players and abilities, which includes ADA handicapped accessibility to accommodate a growing population of wheelchair players. The facility is designed to attract and host Special Olympics, along with regional and national tournaments, which will benefit the economy of Lincoln for years to come.
