Doane University, Learning Commons
The Learning Commons merges technology with creative, collaborative, and instructional spaces inside the Perkins Library on Doane University’s Crete campus.
The upper level of the existing library, which once housed the majority of collection, has been transformed into the new, open Learning Commons. This area features several collaborative and individual study seating areas as well as a 24/7 study area, accessible to students around the clock. The new addition also includes:
- Classroom space.
- Study rooms.
- A media lab with recording studio.
- The campus help desk.
- The student writing center.
The main entrance, formerly on the lower level, was relocated to the upper floor along with the main service point and staff workspace. The Rall Art Gallery, previously located in the lower-level library, now resides on the upper floor in a larger standalone capacity, accessible from the public space as well as the Learning Commons.
The lower level was reconfigured to hold the majority of collection materials, with new compact storage to manage the capacity. This area holds quiet study rooms, a large conference space, gallery storage, workspace, and the campus archivist office.
