Colorado State University, Johnson Family Equine Hospital
Colorado State University’s Johnson Family Equine Hospital is an 85,000-square-foot complex located on the school’s South Campus in Fort Collins. Clark & Enersen worked closely with faculty and staff to develop a detailed space study program, conceptual plan, and design.
Featuring surgical and imaging services, as well as extensive rehabilitation and therapeutic facilities, Johnson Family Equine Hospital has the capacity to provide outpatient care, long-term orthopedic care, and gastrointestinal critical care. It also features a dedicated isolation unit. A future state-of-the-art equine sports medicine component featuring hydrotherapy, a proprioception track, and large indoor soft- and hard-surface arenas will set this facility apart as a top equine hospital.
With close physical proximity to CSU’s new Translational Medicine Institute and Diagnostic Medical Center, the hospital benefits from synergies with leading-edge research in equine and general veterinary sciences. The building’s design blends a high-tech aesthetic with an agricultural vernacular, connecting to clientele as well as maintaining a presence on a notable research campus.
The Johnson Family Equine Hospital was designed with sustainability in mind and achieved LEED Silver Certification. Examples of sustainable design features include:
- Bicycle storage and electrical vehicle charging stations.
