City of Lincoln, Jayne Snyder Trails Center
This facility serves as the services hub for the adjacent Union Plaza Park, and provides community meeting space in the heart of Downtown Lincoln.
The 1st floor features a large community room with a bifold garage-style door that allows activities inside to spread out to the surrounding plaza. Durable finishes support a variety of activities. A retail area was designed for bike rental, fitness retail, or food service, and it is currently leased to an all-natural café. The 2nd floor houses offices for a community health organization, which lends their conference room to other local organizations at night.
The center also acts as a trailhead, offering a city trails map and restrooms for park and trail users. Its design serves as a catalyst between the urban nature of Downtown Lincoln and the open green spaces and waterway of the park. We also designed the surrounding park, which features a three-block paved plaza for events and amphitheater just outside the center.
Our design helped the facility become an emblem of sustainability for the city, utilizing natural light, solar water heating, potential rainwater harvesting, geothermal heating and cooling, sustainable materials, a green roof, and a photovoltaic system.
