City of Lincoln, Air Park Rec Center and Library

The Air Park Recreation Center in Lincoln, Neb., is a shared, multiuse facility that represents a partnership between multiple parties – the City of Lincoln, Lincoln Public Libraries, and Lincoln Parks and Recreation. Clark & Enersen was selected to develop the schematic site plan and interior layout, as well as provide full-service design for the facility. Our team worked with the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department to analyze the site for the new building and create a preliminary program and space analysis. After the completion of programming and space planning, our team developed a fly-through video and renderings of the potential space to be used by the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department for fundraising. Our firm was also selected to carry the project through to the design and construction phases.

The new recreation center and library replaced the existing Air Park Recreation Center that was built in the 1940’s. The design of the new facility features a large gym, specific rooms for boxing, exercise, and free weights/cardio, two large classrooms, a kitchen, a game room, and community gathering space. Additionally, the building is specifically designed with the safety of the users in mind. As the facility is open to the public and used for after school programs, a secure entryway and separate restrooms for adults and kids were incorporated into the design. The building also features an open common area that can be easily viewed from the security desk.
