Clark & Enersen’s 2023 Foundations Class Builds, Donates Four Doghouses to KC Pet Project
Our 2023 Foundations Class recently designed and donated four doghouses to KC Pet Project, a nonprofit organization that cares for more than 15,000 animals per year and has 14 locations in Missouri and Kansas that provide pet adoption services. The class designed a template for the doghouses, built them in Lincoln, and then delivered them to the organization’s Kansas City location.
“Early on, our team identified KC Pet Project as an organization we wanted to support through our class’s community outreach project, as we all share a love for animals,” says Architect Kelly Albrecht, a member of the 2023 Foundations Class. “It was truly a team effort, as each member of the class provided input on the design and everyone was able to help build them. We hope the doghouses will provide safe and comfortable spaces for newly-adopted pets transitioning to life at their forever homes.”
Each of the four doghouses was constructed using a combination of treated plywood and lumber, with a corrugated polycarbonate roof. These materials were selected to ensure maximum durability, as the doghouses are intended to be placed outside. The ceiling, walls, and floor are all double-walled and insulated to retain heat during the colder fall and winter months, and exterior paint was utilized to stand up to the elements.
The 2023 Foundations class would like to thank Sampson Construction and Hausmann Construction for donating building materials; A A Leupold & Sons for donating exterior paint; and Meraki Studio for providing a space to build the doghouses.
