Clark & Enersen Wins Two KCBJ 2022 Capstone Awards for Projects in Missouri and Kansas
Clark & Enersen has received two 2022 Capstone Awards from the Kansas City Business Journal. The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum renovation and expansion in Independence, Mo., earned recognition in the Architectural Design category while the new Prairie Village Public Works Facility in Prairie Village, Kan., won an award in the Sustainability category. The Capstone Awards 2022 ceremony will be held in Kansas City, Mo., on April 28, 2022.
The renovation and addition to the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library, the first Presidential Library to be created under the 1955 Presidential Libraries Act, involved creating a clear and secure entry point to the facility and introducing new gallery and collection space. Our design also helped to improve traffic circulation both into the facility and through the exhibits while also providing flexible spaces to support a variety of event sizes and occasions. The building was originally built in 1957, with renovations in 1968 and 1980. A key component in renovating the entryway was to improve accessibility while also maintaining the inherent character of the structure.
Design for the Prairie Village Public Works Facility entailed the development of a new site and facility for colocation of the Public Works and the Building Codes Department administrative offices. It also features a crew area complete with a conference room, break room and locker rooms, and restrooms that double as a storm shelter. With photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, native landscape species that require no irrigation, and numerous other sustainability features, this facility was designed and registered for LEED Platinum certification.
